What does Life Coaching cost in the UK?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions that I get, and the answer is “it varies”.
The reason it varies is that not one life coach is the same, offers the same packages or the quality of advice be very different.
You deserve the right advice at the right price.
So, my advice to you would be to look at the level of coaching you need and the frequency you need it before you even think about the cost.
When you are comparing Life Coaches make sure you are comparing apples with apples!
So, the cost will depend on a number of options, for instance, at a very basic level, my standard adult coaching package starts from £500.
The standard package I offer for adults consists of 6, hour long 1:1 coaching sessions, a get to know you session to really understand what you want from the sessions and a final review session to look at how far you have come and what you need to do in the future.
I’ve found that 6 is the optimum number of sessions that are needed to really make an impact. Some Life Coaches offer less or more than 6 but if, after the Final Review session you decide that you would like extra sessions, there would be an option to purchase more.
A 1:1 coaching session involves just the coach and the client. It allows the coach to personalise the session to them and deal with whatever they want to discuss. It is also more confidential. In this case the client is paying for the coach’s time, so is often more expensive than a group session, where the cost of the coach’s time is split between the other participants.
Usually a 1:1 coaching session would last about an hour for adults and about 30 minutes for children. Group sessions may last longer depending on the topic being covered but as you are paying for the Life coaches time the longer the session, the likelihood is that you will pay more.
My Group coaching packages start from £280 for 4, hour long workshops and as the name suggests they consist of a group of participants who take part in a group session, usually focused on a specific topic. The cost of the workshop will be split between the participants, but can sometimes involve paying not just for the coach’s time, but also a venue and possibly refreshments and materials.
The type of client that a coach works with will definitely affect the prices that they charge. If they prefer to work with Corporate Companies and Executives, the costs will be a lot higher than parents, charities or under 18’s. For example, I have different prices for coaching young people, with packages starting from £240 for 3 sessions.
The cost is usually indicative of the perceived affordability of the chosen client.
Life Coaches mainly charge for their time however if the Life Coach uses an office or venue for the sessions, the cost of renting that space is likely to be built into the cost of the session. The same may be true of travel expenses if Life Coach has built this into the costs of the sessions they offer. As discussed above, Group session costs will certainly be influenced by the venue chosen.
Following the Zoom revolution bought about by the Covid Pandemic, many Life Coaches offer both 1:1 and Group sessions online. In this case you will likely only be paying for the coach’s time rather than any venue costs.
I carry out my 1:1 and Group Coaching sessions in schools, in a client’s office, on Zoom or in a local coffee shop so there is no need to include any venue costs in my package costs.
Life Coaching is not a regulated profession the UK and is often not viewed as one that requires qualifications. More and more Coaches, including me are investing time and funds into diplomas, CPD’s and accreditations. I have completed my Life Coaching and NLP qualifications with the Coaching Academy who are accredited with the International Coaching Federation. These qualifications and my coaching experience are reflected in my prices.
Newly qualified Life Coaches with a start-up business are likely to charge less than a more experienced Life Coach who has been in business for a number of years. Looking at Google reviews and testimonials should give an indication of their experience but if not, just ask them!
Very often, Life Coaches will have other skills and qualifications that they can utilise as part of their coaching business. These can be a variety of things such as personality profiling (DISC), Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Counselling, Hypnotherapy and many more. It would be wise to clarify with the Life Coach, what they will include in the price of the sessions they quote and what will be an extra, so that you don’t get caught out.
For example, I include my Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP) techniques in my 1:1 and Group sessions so they are not an add-on at an extra cost. I offer Personality profiling (DISC) either as a standalone product or it can purchased as an add on with my 1:1 and Group Coaching sessions starting from £70.
As you can see, I am very transparent about my prices and what I offer within each of the packages. You can see the full list of my price on my ‘Prices’ page on my website via the link below
